Simple Income and Expense Sheet: Kids Keep Track of Money

This simple income and expense spreadsheet helps Lucy keep track of her spending and earnings. As her mom and controller of the back side of her business I didn’t have her do this for a long time and then regretted not setting it up as soon as she started. Why, because even though crafting is supposed to be fun, ultimately she wanted to make money! Yep, that is how important having seven American Girl Dolls were to her. She needed her own money to buy the things that Dad and I didn’t see value in.

Once she started to keep track of her spending and earnings she started to think more about what she wanted to spend her money on. Do Dad and I still buy her stuff? Absolutely , but, she loves getting to spend her own money without us saying no.

She has really learned to spend her money more wisely in her business as well. She uses coupons and buys supplies on sale. She finds wholesale companies on the web to purchase her blanks and is learning how much and what to buy based on what sells. These are such valuable lessons that I never thought about when she told me she wanted to make and sell flip flops.
